I have always worked in broadcast media or media related fields,
developing a wide range of skills and expertise in television
presentation and production. Until November 2002, I was the Series
Producer for BBC Television's "Talking Movies".
I then joined London International Television as Head of Production
while setting setting up a television consultancy business to
further exploit my wide-ranging career and experience which has
involved me with many of the major broadcasting organisations
in the UK.
I have initiated or been involved in a number of broadcasting
start-up projects, introducing new ways of working or creating
a viable operation from scratch. In Northern Ireland, I pioneered
the self-op BBC Television continuity suite, which combined out-of-vision
voice over with vision mixing, and was subsequently introduced
into all the BBC stations, including London. Here, I developed
this further, by rearranging the OU schedule so that one announcer
could run 2 channels simultaneously.
At Superchannel and UK Gold, I introduced new presentation styles,
incorporating new technology that allowed a significantly different
approach to programme promotion and continuity. I even found a
way to make commercials easier on the eye! More recently at the
BBC. With the advent of new and more user friendly software in
post-production, I have demonstrated that desktop editing to full
broadcast specification, while not the full answer, is a practical
application. This enabled me to pitch and have commissioned two
new programme ideas, both of which are still being scheduled.
From that early point in my career, I have tried to exploit
craft skills that are incorporated in a much-used word and increasingly
employed resource, multi-skilling, to the extent that for nearly
ten years I headed up a team of production staff that carry out
the greater majority of their video tape editing, graphics and
audio work while still retaining and using their directing skills
and editorial judgement.
Now, through my own company, I have signed exclusive deals with
the BBC and Pace Communications to provide programming and compilations
to be shown on airlines throughout the world. These incorporate
5 minute Business Profiles, a burgeoning area for companies to
exploit as they attempt to reach their target markets,
As a freelance producer, I am always looking for new projects
that will challenge my creative approach to television programming
and I have several documentary and magazine format programme ideas
under development.
